Retrograde Musings

Life is cyclical. Astrology shows us this beautifully.

I think about how I’ve always used writing as a way to express what I’m feeling. In my early years, that looked like poetry because I didn’t want to explicitly say how I felt. I was very private about my emotional world (a Scorpio Moon will do that to you).

Eventually, that turned into blog posts. Yes, the MySpace days. I’d have something going on at school, go home, and write a blog post about it. I still used disguised language, often using actual song lyrics intertwined with my thoughts, rather than saying outright what was going on.

Then came the summer before college when I wrote a very clever (and brief) book called… The Book. No, really. Looking back, it was very Broken Social Scene meets Brand New. (Those are bands for my younger lovebugs). It was witty, with short chapters that somehow managed to hold a lot of substance, much like the music that soundtracked that era of life.

In college, poetry remained my outlet. After graduating, my writing expanded into stacks of journals filled with different ways of processing my inner world. Eventually that introspection found a new language in astrology. I began filling notebooks with transit charts and observations, tracing the relationship between planetary movements and my lived experience. Over time I moved from reflection to prediction, mapping upcoming transits and considering how their energy might show up in my chapters ahead.

That went on for a while, until I began learning other spiritual modalities and tying those into my musings too.

And now here we are: Insights by Laura, the Venus House Blog.

I went from a middle schooler on MySpace to: a business owner, entrepreneur and Licensed Mental Health Professional… And yet, I’m still doing the same thing I’ve always done: observing, reflecting & putting my inner world into words.

And so we evolve, but we are still who we’ve always been at our core. The expression might change, the tools might change, and our understanding of ourselves might strengthen… but the thread connecting it all was there from the beginning. Looking back allows us to see just how consistent we’ve been, even when our lives look completely different.

P.S. There’s a reason this is called Retrograde Musings. With Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune & Chiron all retrograde right now, the timing is intentional. In astrology, retrogrades invite us to revisit the past. Seems fitting for a little trip down memory lane, don’t you think?
